January is such a sweet time to visit Walt Disney World, and I've put together two great home bases for your family to choose from: the charm of New Orleans at Port Orleans French Quarter, or a safari-style stay with giraffes and zebras right outside at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Both include the same 3 park days, so the choice really comes down to the resort experience you want. Below you'll find each option side by side, plus what it would cost to add a dining plan or Memory Maker, so you can see the full picture.

Each package includes 6 nights at your resort plus a 3-Day Ticket with admission to 1 park per day, good on any 3 days from January 9 through January 15, 2027. Your 2-year-old visits the parks free.

Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

Moderate · Standard Location

Cobblestone streets, gas lamps and wrought-iron balconies bring New Orleans to life here. The kids will love the Mardi Gras pool, where you slide down the tongue of "Scales," King Neptune's giant sea serpent.

Option 2

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Deluxe · Resort View

A safari-inspired lodge overlooking savannas that more than 200 animals and birds call home, including giraffes, zebras and flamingos. The Uzima Pool has a waterslide, a zero-depth entry and a kids' wading pool.

6 nights, Resort View room (looks out over the resort grounds rather than the savanna, though the animals are always a short walk away)

The difference: Animal Kingdom Lodge is $1,131.76 more than French Quarter for the same dates and tickets.

Flights & car: Airfare and ground transportation aren't included in these totals. Happy to add flight options or an Alamo rental car whenever you're ready.

A dining plan prepays your meals so there's one less thing to budget once you arrive. The cost to add is the same with either resort. Plans cover everyone ages 3 and up, so your 2-year-old isn't included, and you'll have credits for all 6 nights.

Before You Book

Good to Know

Deposit & Final Payment: A $200 deposit confirms your package. Final payment is due December 10, 2026.
Memory Maker Timing: To get the $185 price, Memory Maker needs to be added at least 3 days before your trip. Photos are available to download for 45 days after they're taken, so be sure to save them all once you're home.
Park Reservations: Depending on your ticket, a theme park reservation may be required. I'll help you plan which parks to visit on which days once you're booked.
Refurbishments: Disney notes refurbishment work at both resorts (and some construction at Animal Kingdom Lodge).
Pricing & Availability: Subject to change until a deposit is placed.
